With abundant choices in window treatment styles, one can easily be persuaded to choose different fabrics and window treatment styles for each room. However, our enthusiasm can sometimes lead us away from the consistent decor theme we are striving to achieve. Let’s explore one of my favorite window treatment projects - how one talented homeowner opted to keep a consistent theme, using the same fabric for each window treatment throughout a three story Napa estate.
Located high in the hills of the Napa Valley, this beautiful home was designed from expanding and elevating the original farmhouse with the addition of two stories of living space. Along with this extraordinary undertaking, the owners sought to bring their unique Louisianna style to the home and living space with complete wrap around porches. With light permeating on all four sides of the home, keeping the views and serenity of the natural environment was essential. To compliment this beautiful environment, a natural earth color linen from Calvin Fabrics was selected for drapery and roman shades.
With unlined linen, custom drapery was designed to bring elegance, formality and texture. As seen in this ecletic living room, the selection of an earth tone color not only framed the hillside window views, but complimented both nature’s colors and the decor within the home. An iron rod with a French return was selected to provide an additional organic elegance.
To continue the cohesive theme of sheer linen, roman shades were customized for each room. With single hung casement windows throughout the home, the shades provided light filtering privacy and complimented the historic architecture. Each shade was outside mounted above the frame adding height and optimal light.
As seen in this relaxing study, the window treatments continue to optimize the theme of nature and serenity. Rather than competing with the unique decor and stunning views, the simplicity of these consistent window treatments bring a familar and comfortable feel to every room.
